Cleaning Guide for Wall-Mounted Air Purifiers

Clean Wall-Mounted Air Purifier

Cleaning a wall-mounted air purifier is an essential maintenance task to ensure optimal performance and prolong the life of the device. Regular cleaning helps remove accumulated dust, dirt, and other contaminants from the filters and internal components, allowing the air purifier to operate efficiently. In this guide, we’ll go through a step-by-step process for cleaning a wall-mounted air purifier.

How to Clean Wall-Mounted Air Purifier?

Before we begin, please note that the specific cleaning instructions may vary depending on the brand and model of your air purifier. It’s always a good idea to consult the manufacturer’s manual for detailed cleaning guidelines tailored to your specific device. Additionally, make sure to follow proper safety precautions and disconnect the air purifier from the power source before cleaning.

Step 1: Gather the necessary supplies

Before starting the cleaning process, gather the following supplies:

  • Soft cloth or microfiber cloth
  • Mild dish soap or air purifier-specific cleaner (if recommended by the manufacturer)
  • Water
  • Vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment
  • Soft-bristle brush or toothbrush (optional)

Step 2: Remove the filters

The filters are the primary components that require cleaning. Depending on the model, your air purifier may have one or more filters, such as a pre-filter, a HEPA filter, or an activated carbon filter. Consult your user manual to identify the types of filters used in your device and how to remove them.

Typically, the filters can be accessed by opening a panel on the front or back of the air purifier. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to remove the filters carefully. Some air purifiers have filter replacement indicators, which can help you identify when it’s time to clean or replace the filters.

Step 3: Vacuum the filters

Once the filters are removed, use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to gently remove loose debris and dust. Hold the filters over a trash bin or outside to prevent the dust from dispersing back into the air. Vacuuming helps remove large particles and surface-level dirt from the filters.

If your air purifier has a washable pre-filter, use the brush attachment to vacuum it as well. Pre-filters capture larger particles and help prolong the life of the main filters.

Step 4: Clean the filters

After vacuuming, it’s time to clean the filters more thoroughly. Refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines to determine if the filters are washable or if they require replacement. Some air purifiers have washable filters, while others may need to be replaced entirely.

For washable filters:

  • Fill a basin or sink with lukewarm water and add a small amount of mild dish soap or an air purifier-specific cleaner if recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Submerge the filters in the soapy water and gently agitate them to remove dirt and impurities. Avoid scrubbing or twisting the filters vigorously, as this can damage the filter material.
  • Allow the filters to soak for 15-30 minutes to loosen any stubborn debris.
  • Rinse the filters thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue.
  • Gently squeeze excess water from the filters, but be careful not to wring or twist them, as this can distort their shape.
  • Place the filters on a clean towel or absorbent surface and allow them to air dry completely. This may take several hours or overnight.

For non-washable filters:

If your air purifier has non-washable filters, you will need to replace them according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Non-washable filters typically have a recommended lifespan, and exceeding that limit can compromise the air purifier’s effectiveness.

Step 5: Clean the exterior and internal components

While the filters are drying, you can clean the exterior and internal components of the air purifier. Use a soft cloth or microfiber cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution to wipe down the surfaces. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that can damage the device.

If there are visible dust or dirt particles inside the air purifier, you can use a soft-bristle brush or a toothbrush to gently brush away the debris. Be cautious not to touch any sensitive electrical components while cleaning.

Step 6: Reinstall the filters

Once the filters are completely dry, reinsert them back into the air purifier following the manufacturer’s instructions. Make sure the filters are properly aligned and securely in place before closing the filter access panel.

Step 7: Perform a test run

After reassembling the air purifier, plug it back into the power source and turn it on. Allow the device to run for a few minutes to ensure everything is functioning correctly. Pay attention to any unusual noises or odors, as they may indicate a problem that requires further attention.

Step 8: Maintenance and regular cleaning

To maintain optimal performance, it’s essential to clean the filters regularly. The frequency of cleaning depends on various factors such as the air quality in your environment, the number of occupants, and the manufacturer’s recommendations. In general, it’s recommended to clean or replace the filters every three to six months. However, some filters may require more frequent maintenance.

Additionally, periodically check the air purifier for dust buildup and clean the exterior surfaces as needed to prevent the accumulation of dirt.

By following these steps and regularly cleaning your wall-mounted air purifier, you can ensure that it continues to provide clean and fresh air in your living space. Remember to consult the manufacturer’s manual for specific cleaning instructions, as they may have additional guidelines tailored to your particular device.
